Very good to stop it from disintegrating, not so good when it needs to heal over. Also, the 1/2 time life of the meds is like 10 years. I’ve had patients that didn’t think to mention them because they’ve been off them for 5 years, but they’re very much relevant for decades after when it comes to bone surgery.

It’s very common for elderly people to refuse or half-ass their PT, making what should have been a fairly short-term disability last much longer or even become permanent. I’m watching it happen right now with the elderly fellow my mother does part-time home care for. In just 2 years he’s deteriorated significantly and will probably be in care by the end of this year. I broke my arm a few years ago, having it immobilized for a couple of months meant my shoulder wouldn’t move once it healed.
