Research and ask Jesus for clear
discernment. Yes, seems idiotic when agnostic, right? At 14, you’re not capable
of providing for yourself. Additionally, your parents endured your temper
tantrums and fussing, driving them nuts, and so forth because they love you.
The least you can do, regardless of your thinking, is study the roots of
Christianity; doesn’t need to be a 3-hour daily chore, keep it something like
20 minutes to start and go from there.
Especially, discuss what you’ve
learned with your parents. Early Church Fathers such as St. Ignatius of
Antioch, for example. You might be surprised what they know (or don’t know).
What you have here is an opportunity
to put that teenage rebellion to practical use (rather than shouting matches)
and show genuine love to your parents. Now, up to you to take the next step.
Hopefully this helps: we all need direction and encouragement—perhaps you might
remind your strict parents that seeming strict and all isn’t encouraging you to
be a great son.
