 Dogs mostly bark more than 1x because it feels good to bark. They get an endorphin rush. Dogs will when neglected start to “cycle” by barking for that emotional high. It gets worse because once desperate for some attention the yelling “shut up!” Is at least some sorta attention. It gets that way because someone lets it get that way. The dog was either given positive reinforcement of barking, or the owner has neglected the animal. It's not “oh I love my doggies!” It's “I'm a crummy poochie momma '' when a dog barks more than once or twice or at anything.
