If the animal is upright and aware but seems dazed or like it might have broken limbs, but it's able to move around on its own — especially if it's attempting to get away, then you can grab it firmly (trying to avoid any injured areas while doing so), and then make an effort to get it to lay down and stay still… or you can keep it contained by carefully loading it into your car if you have one on the scene with you, and then do your best to keep the animal as still and as comfortable as possible there.
