 I live alone with my 100 pound mostly shepherd mix. There are times I’m gone for 8 hours or more and he’s left indoors. When I get home he first greets me, then dashes for his water bowl and drains it. He’s figured out he can’t empty his bladder until I return, so he doesn’t drink (although he has a big thirst) until I get home. He figured it out on his own as I have no way of knowing how he could be trained for that behavior.
