I personally would not give my feline friend (overlord, master, commanding officer) more than perhaps a spoonful on rare occasions.

 If one really must give your cat tuna—I mean like Fluffy holds a gun to your head and purrs softly in your ear that you are not long for this world unless you meet her demands—choose a low sodium brand. One should also avoid ‘white’ tuna which is usually albacore, and is most usually preferred by shoppers because of its milder, less fishy taste, because albacore is usually found to have higher levels of mercury. Light tuna, usually skipjack, yellow fin, or big-eye combinations have lower mercury levels. However, tuna should only be an occasional treat and not the main course for a meal. Tuna is not a well balanced food for cats and is both high in saturated fats and low in Vitamin E.
