That’s an interesting question and I think there are lots of reasons singers and non -singers choose to partake of recreational and prescription drugs. I read this book about Led Zeppelin, and it seems like there were lots of drugs involved but I don’t remember anybody taking drugs to improve their vocal or instrument performance.

The 70’s were the decade I went to and graduated from High School in, and entered the Navy at the end of the Decade. What stands out the most to me was there was some great music. Groups like Led Zeppelin, The Stones, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, The Dead, The Eagles, etc. There were just so many Great Bands recording and touring during that time period.

I often wonder if Led Zeppelin played their finest gig in the 1930s…or even FURTHER back, what would the reaction be. The hardest part for the ancient audience would be the VOLUME. They couldn’t handle it. There was NOTHING, even in WAR that was that LOUD. We adjusted to it slowly over decades. If a modern pot head smoked the best stuff we had in the 70s, they wouldn’t even get a tiny buzz. The Fillmore East had the best sound system around 1969 - ‘70. It would sound like your computer speakers compared to a Slipknot concert. Other than that, they are so theatrical, it might have appealed to the right audience…open for Black Sabbath?
